Rental prices are therefore largely dependent on location, which city and where in that city. Kitchens of rental apartments in Switzerland are fully equipped with appliances (refrigerator, stove and oven). A shared laundry room with washing machine and dryer is usually standard.
Various options are available to help you find accommodation:
- Apartment and house listings published in local, regional or national newspapers (e.g., St.Galler Tagblatt on Tuesdays and Thursdays)
- Internet sites specializing in housing searches
- Making contacts in the community in which you intend to settle
- Directly contacting real-estate agents who work in your preferred area
Electricity
The mains voltage in Switzerland is 230 volts/50 hertz for small appliances and electrical equipment up to 2,200 watts, or 400 or 3 x 400 Volt for stoves/ovens, washing machines, clothes dryers, etc.
Swiss sockets accept the flatter European universal Type C plug; however, while the pins are identical, newer recessed sockets will not accept the larger, round plugs common in many European countries, such as Germany and France. Appliances and electrical equipment up to 2,200 watts use a proprietary three-pin Type J plug.
